Hello,

I drive a Falcon XR6 2005 which I have owned since new. My car has developed steering wheel shudder after I get to speeds of 90kms an hour plus.
I have had the wheels balanced and aligned- twice I think. However, the steering wheel still shudders/shakes but not all the time.
A year or two ago I was convinced to have nitrogen put in the tyres. If my memory serves me right that coincided with the development of the steering wheel shudder.
The car is no longer very pleasant to drive on the open road because of the steering wheel shudder.
I have canvassed various people's opinion. Some say it is the steering wheel bushes while others say the nitrogen has made the steering too light.I would like to know what you think is the cause and how it can be fixed.
Thank you and regards

Highly unlikely to have anything to do with the nitrogen as essentially the air we breath has around 78% of nitrogen and normally tyres will be inflated with same amount too.

You should try moving the front wheels to the rear and rear to front - it could be a tyre or wheel rim problem which can easily be determined in this manner.

The front suspension bushes and ball joints need to be checked for wear as they could be the cause too.

If your mechanic cannot get to the bottom of the problem then you should consider taking the vehicle elsewhere for a second opinion.
