Hi
I've recently purchased a jap import ford mondeo station wagon. When driving downhill if you put your foot on the brake to maintain speed instead of keeping it on the accelerator the car downshifts when not required. I was wondering if the car's computers are setup differently for transmission changes in different countries? Or is there another reason for this?

Can you advise the vehicle details; the year of the vehicle and the engine size.

2004 2.5cc engine.

Sorry for late reply I never got the email saying this had been responded too. Have taken the car back to dealers and he's getting it checked but would like an independant opinion :)
When going down hills it happens if you are coasting or slowing down. While downshifting is good it appears to happen earlier than it would when manually driving.

From the description it sounds like the transmission is working fine. I wouldn't be surprised if the diagnosis from the dealer is that it is normal and it’s the characteristic of the vehicle.

Keep us informed - it would be interesting to know the outcome.
