Three months ago my left hand front CV joint needed replacing. No big deal, got it done. Great. 4 weeks later the joint is very faintly cracking again on an off camber right hand turn between 20-50ks when I accelerate. I took the car back to the garage. They said nothing wrong. I waited for a few weeks in case it was a "new" problem. Still faintly cracking. So I started to do my own thing and had another garage fit a new wheel bearing. Didn't fix it! I must note that the right hand front wheel CV joint has no noise and been on the car since new! Another thing I found that when traveling at 100K's on a flat section of road, with a fully laden car, on smooth tar seal on a slight camber off to the left the noise that comes from the front left hand wheel area is doog doog doog doog doog, like something is rubbing.
Now I am getting fobbed of by these guys as they cannot pick it up. It has only happened since the CV joint was replaced. Prior to that everything was peachy sweet and the car had no noises at all at any stage.
They are saying it could be this or could be that. To my mind all they have to do is to replace the CV joint and see if this fixes it. They don't seem to want too!
What do I do?
Thanks

It's hard to say what this could be without experiencing it. Generally, a CV joint wont make a noise in the straight ahead position unless it is badly worn, so I don't know that your problem would be a CV joint. So while I'm not saying your mechanic is right, I can understand why he is reluctant to fit another new CV joint.
You said you had a wheel bearing replaced by another mechanic, presumably he diagnosed this, or did you ask him to?
The type of noise you describe could be a number of things, including a wheel bearing, but it could also be something else such as a tyre or even a transmission problem.
Perhaps a second (or third?) opinion might be in order?

Thanks for your reply. I may have confused the situation by mentioning two problems. The primary problem is the brand new left CV joint still cracking when I go around a corner, faintly but still nevertheless making a noise! A new CV joint making a noise! The right hand CV joint is not new and doesnt have this issue. I heard from one mechanic that they had a batch of DUD Nissan cv joints. Replacing this CV joint again would eliminate the potential for a faulty CV joint. I have even offered to pay for it!

OK, if it's clicking when you turn corners, then it sounds like a CV joint. I suggest you go back to the original mechanic and take him for a drive to demonstrate the problem.
You shouldn't have to pay, but you say you have offered to. Therefore, if he still refuses to replace it and you are 100% convinced that the noise is evident, you could perhaps suggest an arrangement whereby if replacing the joint doesn't fix it, then you pay, but if it does, then it's his responsibility.

Thank you. Yes, I am 200% convinced. I have had the original fault prior to the CV replacement to remind me of that noise. I have had 3 months of evidence. I have had other people plus my partner confirm this noise. I like your answer. I will go with this proposal. Thank you once again.
