Hi there.

Are U joints a part of the standard checklist of W.O.F ?
(is there a list online of the standard checklist? I've checked the nzta site, couldn't find one yet.)

Also, is there anything a non-mechanical driver can do to check the U-joints ? (listen for any noise from inside car ...etc)

Follow this link, for the VIRM for the WOF inspection guidelines relating to the driveshaft and universal joints.

A banging sound when pulling away and changing gears or a vibration when accelerating is signs of a worn U-joint but it will depend on how worn it is. If you suspect the joints are worn then get a mechanic to inspect them.
