Not too long ago I bought an Auto 98 Nissan Primera Camino Station Wagon and have noticed a whine coming from the gearbox area.

I went into the dealer for advice and they said that it was a bearing or something like that.

They said that it was quite common for that age Nissan.

Do you have any idea what could be causing the whine and if it is healthy for the car?

Also, I have had to get the rear axle straightened. The rear alignment was out by 6mm causing the front right tire to wear on the outside shoulder.

Again any idea as to what would cause the alignment to be out by so much?

I would be going back to the dealer and asking for a much better explanation.

Transmissions with bearing noises are not normal and need to be repaired as soon as possible.

Contamination of a transmission as a result of a faulty bearing can have expensive side effects.

They may have meant it has a gear whine which may be normal and not cause any harm.

If you struggle to get a decent answer, get another opinion from a garage who specialise in transmission repairs.

Rear suspensions can move out of adjustment, hence the reason they make them adjustable. As long as there is no damage (result of an accident) then it's not a problem.
