I am looking to purchase a Honda Airwave which has a cvt gear box which is the same one put in the Honda Jazz of the same era. I am concerned about the reported problems with shuddering with these cars. Can you give me any insight of reliability/problems.

Yes, you are right to be concerned. This transmission had a poor reputation for reliability, and repairs can be very expensive. The problem was such that Honda reverted back to an old technology 4 speed auto in 2008, despite the fact that there was no stability control on the 4 speed auto.
I think there are better options available.

I also have a Honda Airwave and it has the same shredding problem . i was told a high price by Honda NZ in wiri for the replacement. I wonder how AA initially gave compliance to this model when the transmission was not reliable.
