Hi, we are considering the purchase of the above vehicle. Kim's are 25000. We are concerned about reports of poor reliability, excessive tyre wear, and on talking to holden dealers they say the captiva is a good vehicle, but they have had timing chain problems - mainly stretching. Is this risk sufficient enough not to buy a captiva? Cheers steph.

Hmmmmm.. The new Captiva seems to be really good, but I'm not sure I'd want to own an early one. Vehciles don't generally gain a reputation without reason.
I think there are probably better options out there.

Hi there, thank you for your advice. That was our thoughts too but we just wanted some independent confirmation. We are also looking at Subaru Outback 3L, auto, 2005-2007 models as an alternative. Do these cars have any known issues or problems that we should be aware of? Cheers, Steph

Very thirsty on fuel, and we've heard anecdotal stories about tyre wear but otherwise OK.

Hi there, what are your thoughts on the 2010 Captiva (5 seater)? Is this one of the ones with bad reputation or is this year ok? I was originally looking at a Dualis but have heard there are a lot of issues with the CVT etc.
