I have recently replaced the clutch cable in my car.
Now I find, once the car gets to running temperature, the gears become hard to select and almost impossible to engage 1st gear.
Any ideas what it could be?

The first step is to ensure you have adjusted the cable correctly.
When you apply the clutch pedal if most of the travel is taken up with free play, between the release bearing and the clutch pressure plate, it's possible the clutch is not disengaging fully.
There is usually an adjustment to either increase or decrease the amount of free play on the cable itself.
Failing that the problem will highly likely be internal.
