Hi again,

I need your opinion on how i can fix the srs airbag light on my car. I already did the diagnostic scan and it gives me the fault code 76-77 srs control unit internal defect.

Here's my questions:
1. They told me that the airbag would still function in the unlikely event of an accident, is this true?
2. Does this mean i would fail my wof?
3. How can I fix it temporarily?
4. How can i fix it permanently? What are the parts that i need to check to know the source of problem?

We've tried to reset it so the light would be gone but after few days, airbag light was on again. I hope you can help me and advise me how much it would cost. Thanks!

1. The airbags are unlikely to deploy, in an accident if the airbag system has a problem with the control unit, as it will be in fail safe mode to prevent the system deploying an airbag while you are driving without being involved in an accident.
2. Yes, it will not pass a WOF test in this state.
3. The airbag system shouldn't be temporarily fixed and should be repaired as per manufacturer's specifications.
4. Have the fault diagnosed and the faulty components replaced by trained technicians.

Don't attempt to repair the airbag system yourself. You could/will cause serious injury to yourself or others around you. Airbags should only be worked on by trained technicians otherwise you could do something that might trigger the airbags, which will cost more to replace, and could cause injury.

Have the vehicle repaired by trained technicians.

Hi,

Thanks for your inputs. My friend who is a mechanic and have huge experience in handling European cars told me that with the fault code that I've gave to him, the SRS control unit should be replaced as that is the only way to fix it permanently, is he correct? Thanks!

It's highly likely to be a fault with the airbag computer but a power supply problem, to the airbag computer, can also cause a fault code like this to show.
