I've seen a list of 'recalls' for our Toyota Estima, which was imported as a used car from Japan.

If some of the 'recalls' haven't been rectified by Toyota in Japan, is Toyota NZ now liable ie. can we take the car to a local Toyota dealership and ask them to carry out the recommended work without cost?

It's a question only Toyota NZ can answer to be honest.

While you may have seen some recall information on the same model, it can often depend on the chassis number as to whether an individual vehicle is actually affected.

Best advice I can give is to contact your local Toyota dealer or Toyota NZ direct and ask the question.

You could argue the importer of the vehicle should check for such information before shipping the car to NZ. If some action was required then it would be much easier to have it done in Japan in this case.
