Hey!

Okay, so we recently purchased a Nissan Pulsar Euro Q, 1.8L Manual, 2005 with 106000kms on the odo.

After only having it for two weeks we found it was not accelerating properly and the problem escalated quickly to the point where it would not accelerate at all past a certain point in each gear, without it shuddering violently.

Our mechanic has had a look and has eliminated all of the quick fixes. He seems to think it may be an Air Flow Filter ($700 new).

Questions:
- Has anyone come upon this problem with the pulsars?
- Does this sound like the correct fix?
- What other things should we be looking out for with the 2005 Pulsar Euro Q's?

Nissan's Pulsar is a popular model for the brand. It has a good reputation for reliability which makes it a good choice for buyers. There are no major common problems we are aware of.

The problem you are experiencing could be as a result of a faulty airflow meter but a quick scan of the computer for fault codes and reading the status and parameters screen should give a good indication of the cause of the problem - if it an electrical fault.

The basic checks like checking the spark plugs, fuel pressure, air filter condition, intake pipes for leaks, etc., should be inspected first. I wouldn't feel comfortable paying $700.00 (you should confirm this price yourself) for a replacement part if the mechanic isn't sure of his diagnosis. He could be correct but I would want him to be very sure of the diagnosis or you will end up with an expensive bill. Maybe he can find another airflow meter to test on your car to confirm his diagnosis (possibly ask to use one from a wrecker).
