I recently purchased a NZ new 2002 Mazda 626. When travelling at 50 km on a flat street it freqently changes up & down until I put it into hold. The car has travelled 240,000 km and I have had the Trans. serviced with new filter and oil. Although there is a slight improvement the problem is still there.
What is causing this to happen and how easily is it fixed. Is using the hold button to prevent the gear changing going to cause any harm?

The hold button holds the car in the gear it is in. Its main function is to prevent the gearbox from kicking down a gear and spinning the wheels when you are driving in slippery conditions such as snow or ice. It will help you in the short term but your transmission is likely in need of an overhaul, you should have it seen to by an automatic transmission specialist.
