Hi, I am looking at purchasing a 1999 1.8lt Opel Astra. The speedo and fuel gage do not work and I was wondering if anyone knew if this is a major expense to fix?

It would seem that there may be a problem with the circuit board in the instrument cluster, but it is really something that needs to be investigated by an auto-electrician for an exact diagnosis and to get an idea of costs involved.
Unfortunately, the Astra does not enjoy a great reputation for reliability, particularly electrics. Also, cambelts need replacing much more frequently than most cars as they tend to break sooner than usual.
