The above car is due for a service with 84000kms, I've been told I should replace my spark plugs every 80000kms is this right, and was told I should be running 10/ 40 oil I thought this would be to thick?.

The 10W40 engine oil sounds like the correct grade, however you should contact the Subaru service agent and supply them with the vehicles details to validate the correct grade of oil and the spark plug replacement time. Spark plugs intervals is dependant on the model, some Subaru vehicles only need replacing at 100k.
