I went to an AA licensed repairer and he charged me $259 to put in a new battery... that seems a bit excessive to me... does anyone know what they average cost is and whether or not I can get him to reduce the price...

He didn't first give me a quote (although I did ask him to fix it - I assumed he would call first and tell me what was wrong with it - so that was my fault I guess)...

This is an average fitted price for a battery. The price would be dependent on the size and type of battery required. The labour content to fit the battery is normally a small amount but if the technician tested the charging circuit and tested for vehicle excessive current draw there is normally an extra charge.
