I need a 4x4 to get out in the paddock, nothing too rough, that will also be economical for 45km trips to town and occasional 230km trips to Auckland. I also need 5 seats for the family during holidays. The x-trail ticks all the boxes, but my limit is $10,000 - $12,000. Would you consider a higher mileage model 2000 or 2001, say 150,000km or so, doing the pre-purchase checks of course, is a reasonable buy? I do about 12,500 km per year. Thanks.

I recommend a lower mileage, around 105,000km, with a good service history. The 2001 X-Trail is a good vehicle, nice choice. Another one to consider is the Toyota Rav 4 5 door.
