You are welcome. And for colinbaker's benefit, the writer has considerable experience driving on ice and snow.

colinbaker

Easy to say hard to prove. Explain what considerable means please? Incidentally I found out through a European motoring club experianced in such matters that certain Audi models to name one model have a switch to disable ABS.

Before you dismiss this it could be worth you doing more investigation into your answer. ABS, Power steering and automatic gearboxes in ice and snow especially with a gradiant involved can and do cause problems to inexperianced drivers.

I noted the advocation of snow tyres! Is that not in contradiction of a recent AA involvement to have snow tyres banned in this country.

ABayliss

There are no Audi (or any other make) vehicles that have a switch to disable the ABS.
The AA does not advocate banning of snow tyres, as they do have their place - on ice and snow. They should only be used in temperatures below 7 degrees and should never be mixed with conventional tyres, but for a vehicle that is regularly used in ice and snow, they can have benefits.
I trust Corbo123 has the answers to the original question posed.
