I have recently bought the above car but it came with no driver's manual and I have no idea how to engage 4wd. Is it just a case of putting it into the SL gear? If so, I guess you can't change gear while in 4wd.

There is no 4wd switch to engage, when the 4wd system detects slippage from the front wheels, the power is automatically distributed to the rear wheels according to the amount of slippage detected. The system is always monitoring the amount of traction and engages 4wd only when it is necessary, it is a part time system. The SL (Super Low) gear is used for creeping in slow traffic.
