Hi I'm a trademan looking at getting a new van and have been shown a VW Transporter 2007 with 140000 on the clock for $18000.
I don't no a hell of alot about motor vehicles, but this is an ex lease from a VW dealership that has been fully serviced and looks very tidy.
What I'm spooked about is all the negative comments on the internet about reliability and was wondering how they stack up and what I can do to protect myself if I do decide to purchase it.

The VW Transporter is a great van to drive. Obviously, the one you're considering has done a few k's, but the full service history is a bonus.
Reliability-wise, we don't have any information to suggest that the VW is any less reliable than any other van, but it's fair to say that repairs will be more expensive than a Japanese van. As we know, vans such as the Toyota Hiace are more mainstram in New Zealand, so servicing and repairs are likely to be cheaper.
