Is it worth trying to repair the CVT transmission in a Nissan Liberty??? Its a 10yr old car. Its been juddering intermittantly & a transmission mechanic reckoned its not worth the money fixing it when I only paid 6k on the car. Would like AA's take on this.

Cheers

As vehicles age, it becomes a judgement call as to whether repairs are cost-effective. But factors other than pure economics sometimes come into consideration.
eg; If a vehicle is only worth $5k and the repair is likely to be $5k, common sense might say that the vehicle isn't worth repairing. However, if the vehicle is perfect for your needs, is otherwise in top condition and it's a car you know and like, spending that $5k might give you another 10 years motoring, so you might make the call to go ahead with the repair.
Alternatively, you could cut your losses and sell the vehicle in a non-running condition for a few hundred dollars and go out and buy another $5k car, only to have problems with that.
So, in summary, ultimately it's up to you to decide whether you are prepared to spend the money keeping the vehicle on the road, but based on pure economics, we'd agree with your mechanic.
