Hi Jack,
We have a NZ new 2006 Nissan Tiida automatic (Non cvt transmission). The handbook says that it must be serviced by Nissan Service centre but does not say at what intervals. How frequently should this be serviced and do you recommend going to Nissan or using my regular transmission centre as it is now out of warranty. Costs are about double at Nissan centre but I don’t want to damage the car.
Thank you.

The vehicle should be serviced every 15,000km or 12 months, whichever comes first. Most of the costs at the agents are covered by the higher labour rates, if you do consider using a local repairers, then you need to ensure they are the trusting type and have good knowledge of the vehicle. You should also consider sticking with genuine parts and follow Nissan's service requirements for a while longer. Request a quotation for the service from both parties, ensuring the same genuine parts are listed and do a comparison. Nissan, in theory should have the best knowledge of their vehicles, but it is also possible to find some mechanics at local garages that have worked at the franchise and have the same knowledge.

Thank you. Just to clarify does the transmission fluid need changing every 15,000km/12 months as well as engine oil.

The engine oil and filter will need replacing every 15,000km or 12 months, transmission oil change is normally every 60,000km dependant on condition of the oil, you should refer to your owners manual to confirm this.
