Recently when i started my car, the fuel gauge and the radiator temperature gauge dials went to max and when i restarted the car, everything went back to normal. After that episode, this has been a regular thing. Just today, the speedometer wasn't working and after restarting the car, it started working properly. I asked a friend about it and he suggested it could be the ecu fault. How do i test it? Will i fail the WOF if the instrument cluster is malfunctioning? there are no warning lights on.

This sounds like a problem with the circuit board behind the instrument cluster. There's no real way of testing it at home.

Finally, if the speedo isn't working you will fail a WOF.
