I notice the reservations regarding these vehicles. We are looking for a reasonable station wagon and felt that the Wingroads seemed a reasonably priced alternative too the Coralla 1500 wagons.
Most of the Wingroads seem to be fitted with the CVT except the occasional Aviner. The Aviner seemed to have a standard Automatic and there was the occasional manual Aviner, would they be a better buy perhaps? We are looking at vehicles with up to 80,000km. (We currently drive a diesel Automatic Aviner and it's a bit over 350,000km now)
What year did they seem to sort out the CVT problems (ie would younger than 2006 be a better bet than anything older?
It is anticipated that the replacement vehicle will be driven for at least another 200,000km or ten years if we can afford it!

We've heard of problems with the CVT on the Wingroad, so if you're looking for something to last another 200,000km and 10 years, you're better off looking for something else. We're told the Avenir with the 4 speed auto had a much better reputation for reliability.

Thank you for your thoughts. We really need the wagon and the Corolla wagon seems to be the most fuel efficient. So maybe we should consider paying a bit more now.
Is the 1.5 litre Corolla Station wagon engine good for that sort of mileage?
Or should it be replaced earlier as we're thinking that there aren't as many of the Aviners about (found that when looking for second hand parts for our existing Aviner) so maybe it may be better to pay a bit more for something like the Corolla which has a lot more on the road and maybe a few more in the wreckers yards when we need parts?

The Corolla has a great reputation for reliability and if serviced regularly and properly maintained, it will last as good as anything (if not better than most).
As you say, you will pay a premium for the Corolla due to its popularity and solid reputation for reliability. It would be an excellent choice.

Thank you for your help

No problem. Bear in mind that the 1.5 Corolla wagon offered new in NZ from 2009/2010 has a CVT transmission too. Earlier NZ new models were either manual or 4 speed auto. Japanese domestic market models had a CVT much earlier.

Tjis is bcoming a bit o f a ser4ial! Sorry?
Are there problems with the Toyota CVT's as with the Nissan?
What about the imported Toyota CVT Corolla wagon CVT reliability?
Would that account for the leap in fuel efficiency of the more recent Corolla wagons to 5.8 l/100k that is claimed for the later ones 08 09 models)?

So the Topyota CVT hasn't had the developmental problems associated with the Nissans?
How are the Japanese used import CVT's faring from a maintenance point of view?
I wonder why there has been problems with CVT as DKW and Daff were using these for a long time and they seemed pretty good as long as you carried spare belts! LOL
