My 1998 Honda Odyssey transmission will need repairing at some stage due to slippage between gear changes. Can you recommend an experienced transmission professional close to Taupo?
I have heard these transmissions are prone to premature wear so I would also like to know if there are any up-rated clutch packs etc which should be fitted.
If I am paying to have the transmission rebuilt, I want the work carried out using the latest parts available.

Any upgraded parts should automatically be supplied as required. In other words, as countermeasure or modified parts are introduced they usually supersede the previous part as they come on stream.
There are times however, when a transmission is revamped for a facelift or new model and the transmissions from one model to another are completely different.
Honda do have a reputation of modifying or enhancing their transmissions during a vehicles model life, and as I say some modifications maybe suitable for your Odyssey and some may not.
The other worry about automatic transmission repairs is some garages remove the transmission and send them away to a specialist for reconditioning. In many cases this works fine but in other cases it is best for the auto specialist to drive the vehicle and understand exactly what the problems are, and what to look for when the transmission is stripped.
To get this peace of mind you may have to consider taking the vehicle to either your closest Honda dealer or a transmission specialist some distance from Taupo.
We have several AA approved automatic specialists in our repair network, refer to the location finder on our web site.
They may have garages in Taupo who they recommend you take the vehicle to for a first diagnosis as an initial step.
These repairs don't come cheap so ask for a ball park figure from whoever you choose to carry out the repairs. And remember, the cheapest price is not always the best long term.
If you want the most up to parts available it would be wise to stipulate only genuine Honda parts and fluid be fitted during the rebuild.
