Dear advisor,

My car battery is 6 years old but its indicator is still showing green (good condition). The car has been garaged and the battery is a quality AA one (maintenance-free) with 430 CCA. A retailer is offering a 20 % discount on batteries. Is it wise to buy a new battery now at a good price, and store it for near future use? I wonder how long a new battery can retain its charge when stored. Would it be safe to assume that the old battery may not last for more than a year from now? Winter is also coming...

Thanks again for your valuable advice.

It would not be advisable to buy a new battery and store it. The most common cause of battery deterioration is lack of use.
At 6 years of age, your current battery may not have a lot of life left in it, but I would not replace it just for the sake of it, as it may still have another couple of years or more left in it.
