Do Diesel cars need to be serviced more often than a petrol engine?

There's no hard and fast rule here, but it really depends on the manufacturer's recommendation.
As a generalisation, on older diesel engines, manufacturers usually recommended more frequent servicing. However, in recent times, most manufacturers now stipulate similar service intervals for their petrol and diesel engines.
So depending on the age, make and model, it would pay to check with the manufacturer or dealer.
