Not wishing to alarm you but CVT problems on a car of this age can be of concern as the cost of repair is often more than the value of the vehicle.

I am in Auckland and wish to keep the car longer, maybe another 5 years, for my son who is using it to learn to drive and until he is 25.
Do you think giving the transmission a flush and change the fluid will prolong the life? Am I able to buy the fluid from Honda directly?

I'd recommend taking it to a reputable transmission specialist. The AA has a network of Licensed Repairers, some of whom are specialists in this field.
