I bought a 2003 car last year, has been in NZ from new, good history and former owner is kosher..
When I took it for a warrant at an AA, was advised that it has no VIN plate. I asked them how I could get a new one and they didn't know,. They said that they might fail in in future if I don't get one. Catch 22.

I'm the third owner. Where do I get one?

All cars first registered or re registered from 1 April 1994 must have a chassis number or VIN attached and it is a WoF check item.

You don’t mention the make/model but if it is a mainstream model sold new in NZ I would suggest you take it into your local Dealer and ask them to try and locate the label.

If the label is in fact missing the car needs to go to a NZTA compliance agent (VTNZ, VINZ, AA) to have a new one fitted. It should not be a drama apart from a small cost to have a new label produced and fitted.

Disappointing to hear the response you received when you asked how to get a new label.
