Hi Jack, am thinking of purchasing a little Nissan March 2003 with 11000km (bona fide - reputable dealer - proof supplied etc) - being a woman on my own I would like your opinion. It drives well, has no dings, is spot on inside, no transmission noises (auto changes smoothly and noiselessly), engine sounds very smooth and motor on eye-balling looks very clean. It has not yet been registered in NZ. What do you consider a car like this would be worth to buy? Amongst any other comments you might have thanks.
regards
Maggie

The March is a fun and easy car to drive. My only concern is the fact it is a used import and is probably fitted with what is called a Constant Variable Transmission (CVT). These transmissions are considered high risk with a used import as often repairs are extremely expensive and done outside Nissan’s recommendations.

The NZ new example is called the Micra and is in my option a much better option.

In terms of price I would suggest you would be paying around the $8K mark depending on engine size which can vary between 1.2 and 1.4 litre.

Thanks very much for the information. I heard something mentioned about a 'CVT' - and was about to ask around friends what it was and if it was a risk so much appreciated - that comment of yours.
How do I tell if it indeed has this CVT?? I doubt the dealer would deny it...? If it doesn't have the CVT what would it have in its place?? Thanks and rgds

PS DEaler tells me that the car we are looking at has a K12 normal standard gearbox... please confirm this is correct..... thanks

Asking the Dealer straight up is the best first option.

If the answer is no, and they say the vehicle is fitted with the more traditional hydraulic transmission, then this can be confirmed with a AA pre purchase inspection if you decide to proceed.
