I have a Nissan Skyline 250GT (2001), After diagnosing the check engine light a week ago, Cam extension sensors were replaced, now the car jerks and sputters ( the check engine light came on again), went to the same auto electrician & after checking and consulting others he told me that the cam chain might be stretched & asked me to get it to a Mechanic (fault codes read the second time indicated sensor fault again- but sensors were brand new with no wiring faults).

Can this happen independently or is it someway related to OBD and sensors? IF so how much would it cost to replace the timing chain?.

I have already spent $500 on the sensors and NOW! Timing Chain problem during christmas is BAD NEWS!!. Pls HELP & Advice.

We have heard of this happening to the Nissan Pulsar engine. It's very rare but apparently a stretched chain can confuse the sensors and the engine management system.

It may not be the repairers fault entirely, they can only make calls based on information the engine management system is holding.

Suggest you talk to your local Nissan Dealer or a garage who knows these engines better than most before committing to further work.

It may also pay to ask if genuine or cheaper pirate sensors were fitted by the auto electrician.

i have a similar problem, fault is "swirl control valve" people wanted to replace the valve. checked this with scan tool and valve is working, looked at some of the other data and looks like the left bank is different to the right which may suggest stretched chain.i still have yet to do this check.
stretched chain is not that uncommon.and it may still be the valve but im waiting for it to fail so i know for sure that it is faulty.

they can test the car to see if it has a stretched chain. they need to scope the cam and crank sensors and compare both left and right sides which will be different if its stretched.

the problem is that people think because the computer says something is faulty that you just replace it, not true as you have found out. i would be asking for my money back and trying to find a better auto sparky as they have not fixed the problem. you need to test all the sensors and find what is causing this light to come on. ask them if they scoped the sensors and if they can show you the data to prove they were in fact faulty.
