The car has been idling fast about 900 rpm as a guess just below the first marker. I had a service but we are back having fast idling. The most annoying feature is that the car will not slow down when going down hill with no acceleration. It did, and you noticed, that it would appear to change down at times if you got real slow down hill. On the flat you can take off your foot and the car runs on with no slowing. This results in extra braking down hill and also coming to lights as it will not slow down, I have been told that the air sensor needs replacing and I have had a quote of $900.00 for the part. I have just spend $2000.00 on the last service which included 4 new tyres. Will the air sensor fix the problem? I understand that it cannot be cleaned. I like the primera, and plan to go the Wellington in the new year but not as it is driving at the moment as at 100kms it does not slow down. Can you help. Thanks.

We can’t say with any certainty that replacing the air sensor will overcome the problems you are experiencing however, we are aware of air sensor issues with this make/model.

Some repairers have an understanding with their local auto wrecker and will fit a second-hand sensor to see if it overcomes the problem. Sounds a little hit-and-miss but it can save a lot of time and money.

Apart from the poor running condition of the engine the vehicle sounds quite unsafe driven in its current condition.
