Hi Jack
Thought I get advice form the expert about this. Car runs really well and has nearly done 99,000 kms and is regularly serviced. The only problem is that lately if I'm stuck in traffic for more than 10mins (bumper to bumper) the temperature gauge creeps right up into the red so I have had to pull over and stop the engine for fear of it blowing up or something. Is this just an internal fan that has stopped working when the car is idling? As soon as I'm on the open road again the gauge goes back to normal which is dead on half way and everything is fine. Your help appreciated. Thanks Rochelle

Yes, it could be the radiator fan not automatically kicking in when the engine temperature increases or it could also be something such as a partially blocked radiator causing the gauge to go into the red.

Either way get it checked out ASAP as overheating can cause major and expensive engine problems.
