Ask an expert
We have a 94 Honda Civic that we've owned since almost new. It's in good condition, runs really well and has been garaged most of its life.
My question is; do seatbelts have a life span?
Our son has just started driving the car and I want him to be as safe as possible.
We've checked the tyres and had the car serviced, brakes checked, etc so I'd like to know what you think about 15 year old seatbelts.

Seatbelts are a Warrant of Fitness check item and get very closely scrutinised at each inspection.
They are checked for fraying, discolouration, operation and general damage.
Age is not a reason for rejection, only condition. If the car passes its WoF you have to assume the seat belts are OK.
There would be thousands of cars on our roads as old as your Civic all still fitted with their original belts.
