Hi

Do you mean that the Avensis engine which is D4 VVT-i is ok with the D4 feature as it is VVT-i as well?

I am looking at purchasing a Toyota Avensis 2.0L with a VVT-i D4 engine and am wondering if I should be staying away from this?

The VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing) system is fine by itself but not with the D4 (Direct Injection) feature.

does the 2.4 avensis 2007 also come with the D4 engine? are all D4s irrespective of years and models ( caldina and avensis etc) have the problems mentioned? how abt the nz new avensis GX model? thanks

ABayliss

Yes, the 2007 2.4 Avensis generally has the D4 engine and it can suffer similar problems to the earlier 2.0 litre D4 engines (ie; rough running, stalling at idle etc).
To our knowledge, the NZ New GX models are not D4 so don't suffer these problems. But as there are so many different models in the NZ marketplace, always check under the bonnet. D4 models have D4 written on the top of the engine.

Thanks. As discussed in another thread I have bought myself a ford mondeo. So will not be pursuing toyota further.
The toyota dealer was telling me that the later d4 ie 2007 as a later model has a later model of d4 and more reliable but I didn't buy that. He also said toyota would not have brought in such a vehicle under the signature 2 yrs warranty if reliabilty is a concern!

To me, still it is just a 2 yrs warranty, I will be left on my own after that initial 2 yrs!
