I am buying a car and the only thing the AA inspection said of any concern was brake fluid low and rear pads worn. What should I expect to pay a repairer to replace rear brake pads and perhaps the master cylinder as that was also mentioned. I have a 2008 Ford Falcon FG XT Sedan.

If it’s a straight forward rear brake pad change you could expect a charge of around $150.

Its often not that straight forward however.

If the brake fluid needs changing and/or the handbrake needs attention, then costs could increase rapidly.

We suspect the handbrake on this model is operated by a separate set of brake shoes housed inside the actual brake rotor. Any work or adjustments in this area can be very fiddly and time consuming.

We suggest you contact your local Ford Dealer and ask for an estimate to replace the rear pads and to adjust the handbrake as a starting point. Do the same for any general repairers in your area and compare prices.

Once a booking has been made you can then ask to be contacted on the condition of the Master cylinder before any further work is started as a way of trying to control costs.

Thanks so much for that. In the end the deal fell over so I am now back to the drawing board and
wanting to know about Ford Territories, I wish I wasn't a Ford person, I am tired of Fixed or Repaired Daily but they have the vehicle I want so I'm sticking with the Ford brand
