Hi, we brought a Ford Territory from Ford on 21 August 2011 and have noticed we have oil dripping from the engine. I'm taking it back to Ford tomorrow to have a look at, should this be covered under warranty. We didn't purchase any additional warranties but I understand you are usually covered by a 3 month warranty from when purchasing a vehicle from a dealer?

When you purchase from a Registered Motor Vehicle Trader (Dealer) you are covered under the Consumers Guarantees Act which basicly means the car must be fit for purpose.

The CGA has no time limits but it is fair to say as time moves on it becomes less effective.

Some Dealers have a nasty habit of telling their customers their cars have a specific warranty period only which is misleading.

If you have an issue such as an oil leak you need to take the car back to the Dealer and ask them to have a look and to let you know what the problem is and whether or not it is covered under the CGA.

Until the cause of the leak is identified it is difficult to comment further.

We would like to think a Ford Dealer will do the right thing and look after their customer if the oil leak has not been caused by driver/owner abuse.

Keep us posted.
