CHRIS-BARB

Brought a Toyota Runx 6 months ago - NZ new, so yes, we are the first NZ owners bar Shackel motor company - 2002 - it had a new warrant and had been AA appraised. Went to get a new warrant. It failed due to moisture in the right headlight. I had noticed this - looks like condensation - but didn't realise it was a warrantable issue. The mechanic has said it shouldn't be our responsiblity to get it fixed but to take it back to the dealer. The dealer said they got a warrant - it is now 6 months later - so really not our problem. We didn't take out any other insurance when buying so just thinking of the consumer guarantee act etc. The car is garaged but obviously is out in the rain sometimes.
So - could this problem have arisen in the time we have owned the car - or was it there all along and somehow missed by the motor company's warrant???? Thanks for your help

The Runx was never sold new in NZ so it must be a used import.

It wouldn’t hurt to go back to the dealer and ask the question, but in fairness to them, I doubt they do have any legal responsibility to correct this problem.

As a gesture of goodwill, they may offer to help with the costs which may be the best you can hope for.
