Hi,

is it advisable and practical to have our 2002 2.3 MPV serviced every 6 -8 months and use the standard spark plug that a service centre issues? will it effect the way the engine run and it's fuel economy?

cheers!

Servicing can be stretched to 10’000km’s or 12 months whichever comes first if the vehicle is used around town mixed in with the occasional long trip.

You would have some responsibility to ensure levels etc are checked on a regular basis if you were to push the servicing out a little further.

Every vehicle has its own unique spark plug which is determined by a specific heat range and designed to provide the most complete air/fuel combustion.

Some garages fit long-life plugs which as the name suggests extends the life of the plug up to around 100,000km’s.

A standard plug should last up to around 40,000km’s and are a much cheaper option for the average mainstream engine. The long life plugs tend to be used more when access to the plugs is difficult and labour times start to soar.
