I have recently purchased a 2008 Kia Sportage. Front wheels remove easily/normally.
On both back wheels, after removing all wheel nuts, the wheel remains fixed tight in place, despite quite strenuous effort to remove.
Have been driving for 50 years - havent struck this before. Am I missing something? There's no mention in the handbook of any special removal procedure.
Friend as similar Hyundai Tuscon with same problem.

This situation is not normal, but neither is it unusual to be honest. We suspect the wheel is 'stuck' to the hub flange and needs some old fashion brute force to free it.

Suggest you refit a couple of wheels nuts (finger tight only) to make sure the wheel is not going to suddenly come adrift and catch you unawares.

Next step is to make the car is sitting on axle stands or blocked appropriately.

If you have a rubber mallet give the wheel a good hit on the tyre wall either from the front or back, and the shock should be enough to free it from the hub.

Another trick for some, is to simply sit on the ground and give the tyre a 'kick' with their feet to loosen the wheel.

If the above doesn’t work, take the car into your local garage or tyre store and ask them to have a go. I’m sure they have faced this task many times in the past.

We can’t emphasis enough the need to make sure the vehicle is well supported and not to rely solely on a mechanical or hydraulic jack if you attempt this job at home.

Make sure you do not place yourself in a unsafe position under or around the vehicle.

Thanks for that help.
I had just got exactly the same information from the local tyre shop.
Yes, a few good whacks with a rubber mallet fixed the problem.
