I have a 1998 Galant VRG 1.8 GDI. It has a slight miss at cruising speed 100KPH or around 2500 RPM. I've changed plugs, air filter, fuel filter and ran a couple of tanks with injector cleaner with no success. Could it be a coil pack? One of these reads a 4-5 Ohms lower than the other 3.

These engines are known for developing surging issues (may feel like a misfire) due to an excessive build up of carbon in the in-let manifold.

This is due to the recirculation of the exhaust gases through the combustion chamber to help reduce tail pipe emissions.

If this is the case with your engine, then its a fairly big and dirty repair. Often garages removed the inlet manifold and send to an engine reconditioner so it can be soaked in a cleaning bath which helps breakdown the carbon.

The garage then has the job of removing excess carbon from the cylinder head in-let track which is both a time consuming and very messy job.

The removal of the throttle body may give an indication as to the amount of carbon build-up there is in the inlet track.

We doubt the coil pack would be causing this problem.
