Hi, I have a 1996 Ford Laser GLX Sedan. Front passengers seatbelt not retracting intermittently..sometimes jams when fully extended.
Can I operate on this or does it have to be done professionally because of safety ?
If I can do it, would you have some advice please as to what to look for.
Thanks

The first, and easiest check, is to look for a twist in the webbing which can cause the reel to bind.

The twist can sometimes be at the base of the reel and not totally visable unless the belt is fully extended.

Any internal repairs to the seatbelt assembly itself can only be carried out by the original manufacturer or an approved repairer. There are no approved repairers in NZ currently which leaves you with few options.

Trying to find a second-hand assembly is one option or checking with your local Ford dealer on the availability and price of a brand new unit is the other.

Under no circumstances should you try and dismantle the seatbelt assembly yourself.
