I have gone over the 100k mark and am looking at what servicing it needs without overspending (money is incredibly tight) though I realise that moeny well spend will prevent me losing money as well. Please let me know what is absolutely necessary and what would be nice if Ican afford and then what would be a waste of money. The local garage have said at least cam and spark plugs along with the usual tune up.

The very basic must-do's would be change of engine oil and filter at least once per year or 10km's whichever comes first.

You should also learn to carry out your own fluid level checks (radiator, brake fluid, engine oil) and keep an eye on tyre pressures.

A trusted service provider should be able to look after your interests and only do what is absolutely necessary if you tell them the budget is tight.

It would also pay to ask your garage if this engine is fitted with a timing chain or belt. If it runs a belt you may have to face the costs of replacement at some stage.
