I have a Honda 2001, CRV. On cold mornings after being parked slighlty down hill a fault seems to be indicated with the dash brake warning light staying on for up to 10 minutes of driving. After that the fault does not seem to reappear for the rest of the day. I am not sure if the conditions mentioned are relevant. The handbrake is operated several times and put into the off position. I have checked hydraulic fluid level is correct, brake pads and rear linings are in excellent condition, there are no signs of fluid leaking, sensor terminal connections disconnected and reconnected all seem to be intact and making good contact. Is there anything else I should have checked? Brakes all seem to work efficiently and pass WOF inspections. I only get the WOF check when the brake indicator light seems to operate properly. Have you any suggestions?

Something is not adding up here to be honest and the car needs to go into a Honda workshop or your preferred repair for investigation.

It could be something simple like a poor wiring connection at the base of the handbrake lever itself but you should be able to induce the problem by moving the handbrake lever itself from side to side.

Then again it could be something more critical; cant think what if you have already checked the brake fluid level.

Don’t continue to drive the vehicle in this condition is my best advice.

Thanks, I put it down to dodgey electronics. Also have an intermittent problem with the courtesy lights and dimming circuits. Never did trust those computer and electronic gadgets. All the mechanical components are operating perfectly and have driven the last 40 000km with this problem so will just put up with it. Did not have any problems like this with my Morris Minor 1000.
