Hi there, recently I have had a problem with my BMW F650ST motorcycle and received conflicting information about when I should check the oil. Some say always check when engine is cold, others say immediately after warming motorcycle, i.e. idling for about 5 minutes or after a run. Help please I don't know who to believe.

We have word from BMW that there is a correct procedure for checking the oil on your F650ST.

1) Get the engine to normal operating temperature.
2) Let it idle for approximately 1 minute prior to switching off.
3) Switch engine off.
4) Check oil within 1 minute of turning off.
5) Level should be between the marks.

Hope this helps.

It certainly does. I had heard cold motor from NON BMW owners and was suitably confused.
Thanks
