My honda drives well but at 80kms particularly when I accelerate a noise starts up. Hard to desribe.
A rattle is probably best. The garage replaced the Drive Belt Tensioner Bearing. On the way home
the noise started up as per usual. Any idea's please

This engine is pretty bullet proof to be honest however, they can produce a rattle especially when cold.

This can be due to the piston skirt tapping against the engine bore as the piston is working through its stroke. As the engine warms up and the piston expands the noise is not so noticeable.

If that's what it is, then it really is nothing to worry about and wont cause any major problems.

It is a worry however when garages start replacing drive-belt tensioner bearing for the wrong reasons so hopefully they are prepared to look at those costs in a positive light.

For noises like this it is often best to take the car into a Honda Dealer and ask for their opinion.

I would be shocked to hear it was a Honda Dealer who replaced the drive-belt bearing for the wrong reasons.

Thank you for your response. Be shocked because it was a Honda Dealer. They have decided it may be in the transmission in the lower gear area where the gears come down and meet this other gear that's making the noise between 4th and 5th gear. They are refunding me the cost for the drive-belt bearing. The first mechanic could hear it and didn't know what it was and when I went back saying it was still there the second mechanic said it would be the transmission lower gear that joins the gears coming down to it. So one could hear and didn't know what it was and the next knew what it was and couldn't hear it. Apparently it's all ok and I can do nothing. What do you think?

If the Service Manager does not know about the diagnosing process that is going on in the workshop then I think he should. Maybe a phone call is appropriate to discuss the guess work that went on in your case.

It sounds like they still don’t really know what is causing the noise. If you are prepared to give them another go, I would be asking the Service Manger to arrange another inspection of the vehicle to confirm just what the noise is, and where it is being generated from.

Thank you. I will do that but first I think I will go to a past mechanic to see if he can give me a heads up on whats going on then speak to the Service manager with possible solutions.
