How long should a set of glow plugs last? I have a 1996 Nissan Terrano diesel 4x4, in august last year a had the glow plugs replaced as i was told this was the cause of the starting problem i was having with it at the time, ( i had to wait for well past the glow plug light to go off in order to get the motor started), otherwise it would 'grawnch' and make horrible noises, then i'd have to wait that long again. But i have noticed that it has started to do this again, ie, if i try to start it as soon as the light goes out, it will make that awful noise and of course, won't start! so i have to wait longer for it is ready to start. So should my glow plugs have lasted more than a year in my vehicle? I have only ever replaced them once before, i've had the vehicle for 5 years now. many thanks :o)

Glow plugs should last a lot longer than a year, and I wonder if there may be some electrical problem causing them to stay on longer than necessary if they are burnt out already. I'd go back to the repairer who did the job and ask for the system to be checked. I would have thought a warranty may still be in place on repairs done only 12 months ago.
