We are considering the purchase of a NZ new 2003 Hyundai Sonata (manual, 2400 cc, 125k on the clock). How does this model stack up in terms of reliability? Do Sonatas have particular issues to look out for?

Thanks in advance

Apart from being a little bit bland as far as looks go, this model Sonata carries no real baggage and enjoys a solid reputation as a reliable and user friendly vehicle.

The brand in general (around this age) does have a reputation for reasonably high fuel consumption which is something both Hyundai and Kia (shared technology) have worked very hard on in recent years.

You could certainly do a lot worse.
