I am very ignorant when it comes to cars so don't be surprised by my questions. Firstly, does my car have a cambelt and secondly ,if so ,when does it need to be changed? It has done 192000kms and has been regularly serviced since I bought it 2 years ago. Is it up to the mechanic who services my car to tell me such things?

My information is saying the engine runs a chain which has no replacement period.

Unless a customer asks, I guess a mechanic would not think to mention the fact the engine has a chain.

If it was fitted with a belt then yes, a mechanic should definitely be informing their customers of the recommended replacement period.
