Hello. I have a 2002 Peugeot 307 which has been sitting idle in my garage for 3 months while I have been overseas. I arrive home on 6 August and will want to use the car. Do you have any advice, or dos and don'ts, in regard to starting the car after this period of inactivity? Any comments you have will be appreciated.

Keep your fingers crossed the battery has enough charge remaining to turn the engine over and start the car.

Apart from that no worries, just avoid over revving the engine when it does start as it will take a little time for the oil to circulate around the engine after this length of time sitting idle. A low engine oil level would not help this situation.

You may want to check all levels (water and oil) first but if they were OK beforehand, and there are no signs of external leakage, then it’s not really a must-do.

You may want to check tyre pressures once the car is mobile also.

If the battery is flat I suggest you call the AA roadservice for a jump start and further advice.
