Hi there

I drive a 2016 Toyota Corolla, when the vehicle is warm and I apply the brakes I can hear a grinding noise from what I think are the front brakes. This is especially heard going downhill and when coming to a stop.

I’ve taken the vehicle to the Toyota dealer who couldn’t replicate the fault, they checked the rotors and pads and said they were “good”. I’m not convinced as the issue occurred again while driving the vehicle home.

I think the issue is that there may be some scratches on the brake rotors which may cause the friction and grinding. This was the diagnosis on my old car where a similar issue was happening (this was at an AA Auto Centre and not at a dealer).

Would it be worth getting a second opinion from another garage? Some advice would be great.

Hi there,
Yes I recommend getting a second opinion and have them check the disc operating thickness and see if they can be skimmed- it might just be the brake material compound and worn disc combination. You can find a list of Auto Centres here: https://locations.aa.co.nz/search/auto-centre
